Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I’m very much passionate about learning. Learning should never stop. Many people equate age, status or certain achievements with the end of their education, but to learn is to be alive. I want my ideas to be unconventional. Entrepreneurs are the ones who change the world. They see the world as they want it to be, not how it is. Entrepreneurs are able to contribute the nation for its development & indirectly provide the employment What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Good Question. I would say not just in but at night, it usually happens. am always fond of figuring out something niche or new, which may create a proposition for me and the public at large. I usually keep this mode on all the times and it serves the source of my motivation all the time. By God’s grace, have been able to do that as well, where either has created it or worked on something related to it. Also, I am currently in the process of developing something niche on lines. What is your brand’s USP? Larger scalability and lower transaction fees . How is your brand different from the competitors? Dart is global initiative in blockchain space & uniqueness of Dart is its lightning speed & cost effectiveness compare to other leading blockchains in present scenario. Also, Dart allows business & governments to use blockchain infrastructures and leverage its strength without prior knowledge of distributed system During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business is born during the COVID-19 crisis, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with the challenges of the pandemic. Our business model consists of a lean team which is not resource-heavy and has minimal overheads. The freelancer model ensures each and every work can be handled remotely, where we don’t need to do physical meetings. Every aspect of the business is online and tech-enabled to ensure automation as much as possible. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Every business has risks. Our risks are associated with a right skillset that we look for expansion in future. We already have a core niche team but I see from future expansion perspective, we would need innovative minds, with the flexible thought process. Although, with a clearly defined process, and innovative means to reach out to search resource, we are confident enough that we will mitigate it. What are the three most important lessons you have learned while building your start-up? Be open for new opportunities Look for the potential of tech Hire people who believe in the vision In your opinion, what is the importance of a good team? Teamwork promotes strong working relationships Finally, when employees work together and succeed as a team, they form bonds that can turn into trust and friendship. It's human nature. And it's great for any organisation, since employees who like and trust each other are more likely to: Communicate well with each other. Teams innovate faster Teamwork can create healthy competition What comes first for you - money or emotions? I am an emotional person. Business needs to have emotions, not personal, obviously, but business ones like concern for quality deliverables, client satisfaction, targets & roadmaps, you planned & how you will achieve it, etc. Money is obviously the priority but I believe if your value creation process is right for others, money will automatically come as an outcome of it. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I have successfully carried out Pre IPO advisory for a Government undertaking under the supervision of great mentors I have. It was a challenging task as the sector for which we were executing it, was complicated. Even, parallel hired consultants were not that effective as compared to our work and Organisation fired them. But due to the continuous trust of my immediate supervisor in me, I have been able to carry out successfully. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? In my journey so far what has helped me immensely is the lean methodology. In your opinion what are the keys to success? There are a few and you can learn it on your way up. As long as you have growth mind set it is not a problem. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I always work on a tag line ‘add value to get value’. Don’t focus primarily on money or investments but keep your focus on creating a sustainable venture & value creation. I believe, rest things will automatically set with time. Also, if you are starting up a venture, feel free to reach out to us. You will find us a great partner or mentor to you with innovative means. As per the company’s commitment to its customers that their chips are 60% less fat compared to fried potato chips, with high-quality Sunflower oil used for garnishing. Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur; Actually, the journey started when Ankur Jain, co-founder at Bira met me at Reliance Retail where he joined under my tutelage for training. I was mentoring him for the Rural Business Hub model wherein we had a great time as we hit it off. Then Ankur left to pursue his own business interests and I later joined Lavazza and Barista as the Brand Integration Manager for Italy. Whilst at Lavazza almost after a span of 5 years I left to join Ankur in his business interests. I was in touch with him. In meanwhile, Ankur had been concentrating on his business interest and was pursuing the beer game relying solely on imports from Belgium, US, and Spain. Anuj who was Ankurs batch mate at school also joined up after returning from a stint at UBS in London. Thus our journey at Bira began. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Having been at the helm of affairs in Coca Cola, ITC, Bausch & Lomb, and then Lavazza I was getting bored and waylaid in my professional world, a sort of cocooned existence. But for want of a break, an opportunity and the like to change the status quo of life as I continued to toil in the inane large corporation marketing guided by SOPs and best practices with market integration. There was nothing to look forward to in this mundane 24X7 existence. But as the saying goes luck is opportunity + patience + divine intervention, Ankur called me one day in my Lavazza stint and told me to chuck all this and try to do something which will have my footprint and stamp. Sounded exciting, challenging, and differentiated and therefore I opted for it and now I can never aspire to do a regular job. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? Three factors will always play a full-frontal role in entrepreneurship: constant challenges, yearning to go for the unreachable, and quenching your thirst to create something new out of the ordinary. These are the guiding principles that, according to me, should always accompany your thought process. However, the big umbrella factor always is: Fire In The Belly. These are the key drivers What’s your source of motivation? One key takeaway from our ancient spiritual knowledge and the wisdom that they gave us is the constant yearning to look ‘inside’ instead of ‘outside’. By this I mean you will have to discover that force, the spirit inside your own self to egg yourself on in this journey Motivation is a driving force that runs on the fuel of passion, Knowledge, and ability to look beyond. Anyone & anybody can be an entrepreneur provided he or she can imbibe these 3 principles inside one’s self. Though you need externalities then’ fortune favors the brave’. How many hours a day do you work on average? Time management is a myth and oft used word which has become the fashion to denote how industrious one can be. If you can skillfully assign time/job matrices to something on the line of Steven Covey’s, you can make things easier. I usually devote 10 hours a day at the max and try to mix business with pleasure i.e taking time out on some weekends. What is the uniqueness of your startup? The game-changing word is Disruption which motivates the Consumer packaged Goods space. Uniqueness depends on many factors: business category, the segment in that category, the competition in that category, the current players, not in that order though. What you have to look for is uncontested space, unmet needs for the category consumers, and the current offerings. Once that is done then you devise a price positioning matrix that gives you the open spaces to work on. For eg. In the case of BRB chips, we found white spaces in some unique offerings as compared to the mundane chips which have been going on for some time, no product differentiation, and value-added for the consumers. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I am reminded of a line in the movie Border: “Zindagi ka doosra naam problem hai”. Therefore pressures and linked stresses that are part and parcel of a daily work living Managing it is both, easy and difficult in a startup: Easier part : First being clear of your work duties, your deliverables, and communication flow. For instance, have daily morning meetings to resolve interdepartmental issues, any differences, and the usual flow. The basic step is to remove irritants and friction The difficult part is of interpersonal dynamics of the co-founders, expectations that can crop up linked to some new issue and financials How do you generate new ideas? Generation of new ideas is a more strategic part of the business It is usually done amongst the co-founders and which is obviously reliant on some key learnings that one has found lately, some new insight form our consumers and inputs form our own team New ideas primarily should result in new product development or some key messaging or distribution issues or facilitating business in a better cost-effective manner Therefore to sum up we need to generate new ideas to increase our value for the consumer, reach and distribution and the need to bring in cost effectiveness How did you come up with the name of your company? The name was more of a brain wave which one of our co-founders came up with one day in the morning to name it Forbidden Foods. It is linked to many facets: of course the first is the fruit as per the Bible signifying the need to break the molds of good and evil, next comes the work Forbidden which means that we are part of the angst of the youth(primarily our target is years 15 -25) and this age group loves to play anti-institution i.e thinking against the current wave. BRB was our take on this kind of a product type and brand as a result of this thinking and is actually an acronym: Be Right Back This relies on the prevalent SMS lingo in the current generation, the pointer towards taking any time, anywhere, and anyhow to break what you are doing and take a break. Just relive the moments with BRB and it is like a pause to taste and reflect on things around you What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? Well, it is a mindset. Our current education brings about pressures, forcible competition, and expectations that are asynchronous with the current situation. Therefore there is no urge to ‘create’ but to ‘conform’ However, to inculcate that feeling of creating something out of our daily mundane existence is the key. We have to find our hidden talents, our passion, and the desire to seek something in life that not only creates a source of income but is also sustainable and creates opportunities for others. Because it is in giving that you receive. Having said that there are a lot of externalities that govern our world but the trick is to escape these and carve your own space. Share this Interview: Know more about Search Foundation Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur; Born and brought up in a small village in a farmers family. Walked many miles daily to attend school. Left the village to grasp the quality education, did Intermediate while remaining in the hostel meant for poor and needy people. Wanted to pursue Agriculture engineering but landed up with a diploma in electrical engineering from government polytechnic to support family expenditures. In 1993, because of the unpleasant & unhealthy environment of my home and the torturous and humiliating behavior of my stepbrother, I was facing with the ideas of suicide. Gradually my depression reached a higher level and I was thinking that there is no meaning of my life so I should end it through committing suicide. For some time I also lived at my elder sister’s house but there also I did not find a suitable atmosphere for me so I left it and went to Yavatmal city. I started working at a shop for my livelihood and did the work for almost one year and then one of my sworn sister helped me. With her husband, she took me to the doctor and told him about all my difficulties, mental and psychological pressure. With the help of that sworn sister and doctor, I keep myself out from the trap of depression. I got the opportunity to serve from an instructor to Principal of Private ITI and with the support of the Chairman of Polytechnic got the chance to fulfill my dream of doing a Bachelor of Engineering in Electricals. Alongside my job I also completed the Diploma of Public Relations and Professional degree of MBA. During this period, the idea for doing something for rural students of tribals and farmers came to my mind. in 2002, registered our organisation “Search Foundation” and In 2005 we started the first English Medium School in a tribal and remote area at Tehsil level, Korpana with the pre-primary section along with all the Government Permissions.Presently having a huge infrastructure of 10 Acres with modern and advanced facilities in our school campus. Our school also got the status of Renowned School from the Maharashtra State Government and we have admitted around 300 tribal students for education. Now along with this school, we are running some of the social organizations under the umbrella of “Search Foundation” and we are moving forward with our continuous efforts for the overall development of people of tribal and farmer communities. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Since my bent of mind was towards doing the welfare activities for the remote needy tribal people in specific and people of my society in general but due to my Job schedule, it was difficult for me to manage my job and to pursue my mission to work for the tribal population. I took a chance to proceed with my mission, I quit the job and started my venture “Search Foundation” to work for the betterment of our society. It is universally accepted that if you have to work for the welfare of the society without expecting any profit then you need to have a vision and a great dedication for proceeding further with your ideas. I decided to work for the tribal population and have no grudge that I quit the job. At the same time I feel great that with my tremendous will power, I implemented and transformed my vision into reality. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? My pursuit of helping people is my driving force to become an entrepreneur and since from my youth days, I wanted to work for the welfare of farmers, tribal people, students, and youth of our vicinity so that they can also be a part of the mainstream. I also wanted to use my knowledge, experience, talent, and potential for the service of these tribal people and provide them with a healthy environment and support system so that they can also fulfill their dreams and lead a successful and satisfying life like all others. For me serving the people of these rural communities is equal to the service of the Nation because these rural people are the real backbone of our Nation. What’s your source of motivation? The enormous number of smiles of satisfaction and happiness of the beneficiaries of our work is the main source of Motivation for us. This really makes a very good organization “Search Foundation” making us stronger and inspires us for more dedication towards achieving our goal of overall development of these rural farmers, tribal people, and youth of these communities. How many hours a day do you work on average? Nature has given the fixed timeslot of 24 hours to each and everybody without any discrimination. So we all have equal 24 hours to manage and complete all the work and necessities. I usually work for 13 – 14 hours a day. Sometimes my work also goes up to 15-16 hours. I usually give 6 hours to sleep to maintain the health system. Tell us about the uniqueness of your startup, please; Our organization is working for Underprivileged communities, especially for framers, tribal people, students, and youth of rural areas. Our Search Foundation has been working since 2002 in the remote tribal area of Korpana & Jiwati Tahsil, in Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. Nearly 100 villages are living in substandard conditions with the major occupation of rain-based farming and agricultural labor. We organize and run many activities and projects from time to time for the overall development of these farmers & tribal people of our vicinity. We are trying to uplift the standard of living of these people and our aim is to work for the overall development and welfare of these underprivileged people without any discrimination. For their overall development, we conduct many activities and programs for their Education, Health, Hygiene & Nutrition, Women Empowerment, Environment, Agriculture, Personality Development & Career Guidance For Youth and students. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I have a unique way of handling pressure & managing stress. I normally try to maintain my physical fitness with yoga, exercise, and try to meet, interact, and share the things with my friends and wellwishers to manage the stress. We should always keep this thing in our mind that if we are planning and working on something big then we will definitely face the difficulties and hurdles but these difficulties and hurdles are to make us stronger and ready for winning the given situation to achieve the goal. So we should make yourself stronger, fight with all the difficulties & hinders and win that at every step. We should also think and try to maintain the feeling of friendship for everyone. Do not have the feeling of competition and jealousy for anybody even if he/she is your competitor in the field. If we are taking care of these things and doing the work with positive thinking, caring, and supportive nature and with a cool mindset then there will be no pressure at all. Always have faith in your efforts, handwork, and in your passion. How do you generate new ideas? In my point of view, if somebody is having a big vision and that big vision is for the wellbeing & betterment of all members of society and if we try to explore new things and search for new things continuously then the new ideas come again and again to the mind automatically. If the person starts implementing those ideas and the result of those ideas leaves a smile of satisfaction and happiness on the people of the society., then these smiles of satisfaction and happiness of the people become a driving force to do a new work each and every time. How did you come up with the name for your company? I wanted to give a unique name to my organization and that name should not be a traditional one. I also wanted that the name should be clearly an indication of our work so after searching and thinking a lot at the end I came up with the name “Search Foundation”. Each and every human being should do the continuous search for the best possible way of his/her welfare along with the welfare of the society. In our organization “Search Foundation”, we try to search and implement all the possible ideas for the betterment of our society. We started all our ventures under the tag of “Search”. When the time came to decide the name of the school again we decided to give it a name related to our mission, so we gave the name “Scholars Search Academy” to our school. This name clearly indicates our aim of searching for the new scholars in the society for the enrichment of our environment. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I think first of all we should be a good human being and then we should set and decide our target. After that we should do the analytical and logical research and development work for that so we can be ready for all the possible hinders and obstacles of our journey of achieving our goal. At last we should implement the planned ideas one by one with positive thinking and enthusiasm. For this both the objective and medium (Path) of our organization should be pure, so we should always try to run all of the organization with the ethical way to get the real satisfaction of the beneficiaries. Our ticket size is $1-$25 million. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? About choosing entrepreneurship over job I would like to sum-up with the popular quote of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs perhaps summed this idea up best when he said: “When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it … Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.” Entrepreneurs don’t just want to change their lives -- they want to change the world. Mark Twain also explained the lure of entrepreneurship best when he wrote, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Being an entrepreneur gives me the opportunity to take a calculated risk on a passion. Entrepreneurship constantly presents new challenges. As I overcome the adversity in my business, it leads to personal growth as well. I love owning my own business because I feel there is always something that I can do to improve. Being an entrepreneur is awesome for a lot of reasons, but I think the most important and overlooked reason is that it forces a person to develop parts of their personality that make them more well-rounded and a better person. I think being an entrepreneur is great because the possibilities are endless. You can be as creative and innovative as you want to be, and the results are the most rewarding. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Let’s face it, feeling motivated is perhaps one of the most difficult things you could ever do. If it were so easy, everyone would be making progress and achieving their goals they’ve set out to achieve. Even worse is when we read countless articles from around the web that make it seem straightforward. As a result, it often becomes frustrating due to it seeming easy to apply on paper. It does little to improve your self-esteem and confidence, especially when you face difficulties in applying the advice you know and understand so well. But all of this should feel encouraging, because one of the main things I personally found with regards to motivation is that it takes very little of it when doing the things, you truly love. It seems very confusing at first, but it makes sense when understood. Have you ever felt like you needed motivation when doing something that excited you? So, I think because I love what I am doing that keeps me going on, having huge responsibilities and having set goals keeps me going on. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? The best measures we took is to give work from home and closed deals online, without much disruption and we went all digital during this COVID-19 crisis. Every aspect of business is online and tech-enabled to ensure automation as much as possible to maintain the required social distance. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Coming back to India after 15 years was not easy, but I was determined to move on in my journey. I set up Convanto 7 years ago, a boutique investment bank led by a female founder. Determination is a quality that makes you continue trying to do or achieve something that is difficult. I had to believe in myself and not others, and at one point I even had no support, but I was still firm on my decisions. The day I stopped listening to negativity from many people I found out that I was skilful, talented, and was doing things in the right manner, which was why I succeeded, not mere luck. When many doors closed many others opened, and it felt like God himself was by my side. I think looking for more solutions and less problems, and staying positive and happy, helped me overcome my roadblocks. Ultimately, we always must help ourselves as someone won’t always rescue us, and not giving up easily always helped me. What comes first for you - money or emotions? I think a balance of both along with ethics is important to have. What many of us have forgotten is that our money can do so many important things. It enables us to secure education for ourselves or our children, support or recover our health, and gives us freedom to enjoy our lives. Though we may conflate money with all sorts of attributes—wealth, power, intelligence, style, even human worth—money has no personality of its own. It does, however, reflect our feelings, values, and beliefs. Importantly, money can endow us with an irrefutable sense of freedom. Numbers can’t do that. Emotions I think we all have but we need to have balance of emotions always. Emotion isn’t all bad. It tells you what you’re passionate about, what really matters to you. It makes you feel alive. The key is self-awareness. Much of our emotional world is unconscious. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? As you know everyone has to deal with pressure, both in their personal and professional lives. In the workplace, this pressure often manifests itself in the form of tight deadlines, demands from your clients, investors etc. Since stress is unavoidable, it's important to learn how to channel and deal with it in a healthy, productive way. In doing so, you'll not only survive tough situations, but thrive despite of them. I do morning walk daily; meditation and I drink lots of water. When under pressure, our first response is to work harder and grind through it. But you can't get out of the problem by doing what got you into the problem. Take contrary action by creating a daily habit of pushing away from your work for 15 minutes or more of "purposeful slacking." Walk, stretch, breathe, meditate, be still and allow yourself mental and emotional freedom from all the pressure. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/start-up? My persistence was one of the key factors that helped my brand to grow. I was always on my toes, looking for new ideas and ways to position my business, often even stepping out of my comfort zone when it came to the events I did. Moreover, I am a firm believer that growth is largely related to client satisfaction, and so I do everything in my power to make sure they are satisfied with my work. Over time, I have learned that the best way for sustainable growth and success of any relevant strategy is to focus continuously on customer problem-solving or feedback and improving the service to them and their successful experience with what you offer them. This builds continuous consumption, trust, value and growth, and is what I have implemented in my brand. This, combined with my determination and persistence, has helped my brand to grow the most and reach where it has today. In your opinion what are the keys to success? The number one lesson I’ve learned in my lifetime is that nothing beats hard work. Hard work outweighs talent and intelligence and is necessary if you want to succeed. This not only means working hard when things are going well but working harder when things are not. It means taking calculated risks and sticking to them, no matter how challenging they are. This is very important to keep in mind as an entrepreneur. No business is perfect, and just like people, they too have their faults, no matter how successful or unsuccessful they may be. Recognizing and accepting these faults as an entrepreneur, facing reality and doing your best to work around these faults is the best way to move forward and the secret to success. With time, I’ve learnt of the importance of adaptability too. How adaptable a business is defining its ability to stay afloat in the future. Being progressive in terms of keeping up with the ever-changing market is of great importance in an industry such as this, and we ensure that Convanto does its best to keep up with these changes. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Every single person I know who is successful at what they do is successful because they love doing it. Anything can be done, as-long-as you truly believe it. We led with our conviction rather than rational, because rational said it was impossible. Find something you love and do it better than everyone else. Failure is a steppingstone to greatness, and we all fail. I read the book ‘Power of the Subconscious Mind’ and found it inspiring, and I practiced the law of attraction. Also remember that you will never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You will only be criticized by someone who is doing less, so always remember that. Successful people do not put others down. - Our Vision | VictoryTales - An Online Inspirational Portal
Our Vision We Cover the most inspiring stories around the world VictoryTales derives its definition from the humble word “Inspiration” which in its figurative sense appears to predate its literal one. As the word “Inspiration” is the past participle of inspiration. Similarly, we as VictoryTales is an online portal that publishes the finest content around Personal development, Success Mantras, Interviews, Startup Stories, and about the Entrepreneurship to inspire the world. We often overlook the important role of inspiration whereas it awakens us to better possibilities by allowing us to transcend our experiences and limitations. If we believe, Inspiration pushes us from apathy to possibilities and transforms the way we perceive our capabilities. We believe that Inspiration is an elusive nature which we normally overlooked in life and the frequency with which a person experiences inspiration in their daily lives. It is also believed that inspired people were more open to new experiences and reported more absorption in their tasks. “Openness to Experience” often came before inspiration, suggesting that those who are more open to inspiration are more likely to experience it. It is also believed that human being has a capacity to capture and activate inspiration and it has major effects on important outcomes in one's life. We believe that there are four main Ingredients of Inspiration: Inspiration involves both being inspired by something and acting on that inspiration. Inspiration involves a moment of clarity and awareness of new possibilities. Inspiration springs from the beauty and goodness that precede us and awaken us for better possibilities. Inspiration is evoked spontaneously without intention.

Ltd., belonging to the group, is a young company engaged in the manufacturing of an entire range of paper products and stationery for students and executives alike. On enquiring background about Mr. Rahul Todi, and his journey as an entrepreneur, he apprises us that; The idea to start a notebook brand besides the family Real Estate business came from a thought process that our family business was geographically restricted to West Bengal and due to the success in Real Estate involving direct consumer interaction, I thought of launching an exciting children focussed brand and starting with a “notebook”. It was a good way to establish our presence across the country. I belong to a family where overall interest as mentioned is in Real Estate, Agro, and Engineering. My first personal venture was in IT which I started with two of my college mates from Australia and we grew the business to about 1300 people in IT Services. We sold the company to Manpower Inc which is a global manpower services company. On requesting him, why did he choose entrepreneurship over a job? he explains that; I think from very early in my childhood I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I belong to a multi-generation business family who have been in business throughout their life. So I have grown up seeing my father being an entrepreneur which probably inspired me to be an entrepreneur myself rather than doing any job. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? This industry is very exciting and challenging. Exciting because every day is new; everyday you are building something; every day you are planning and looking at each project in a new way. One of the most fulfilling parts is the fact that to see something you envision in your head, then to plan for it and finally to see it being built, is one of the most enriching experiences about the industry. On enquiring about what gets him out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s his source of motivation? Mr. Rahul explains that Motivation ! The most important thing one needs in life. Motivation is the prerequisite for better performance. Intelligence, hard work, talent- everything is a mere waste without motivation. My source of motivation, I believe, is creating something new and my family. On enquiring about the challenges/obstacles he faced in his journey so far, Mr. Rahul narrates that; Challenges and Obstacles are always a part of any journey and naturally my journey has been no different. One of the biggest challenges I feel every entrepreneur faces is a failure and also in your entrepreneurial journey you are bound to make some mistakes which might lead you to business losses, and also might lead you to some distractions. In our mind we feel these obstacles and challenges as a problem but if you use it as a learning for your next venture or the next part of your venture you will surely overcome the obstacles and challenges. One straight question, how do you handle the pressure and manage stress: It is easier said than done and every individual has his own way of managing stress and pressure. Pressure and stress are part of the entrepreneurial journey and we all must learn to handle pressure and stress. To be very honest there is no formula that can work for everyone. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? The one strategy or believe that has helped me is the intent to do good work. A lot of problems and issues will arise doing these part and temptations are there to change your path but in the end, if you have honesty and if you have the intention to create a great business or a great product and service you will succeed. Personally this has helped me to grow and come to the stage where I am today. Sai Poorna Patnaik Founder Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. Special focus on Police, Lawyers & Doctors. 18,000 people have been taught so far. Certification Workshops in affiliation with the Rehabilitation Council of India are also conducted. Can you please tell us the kind of work you do as a “Social Worker”? I am the Founder – CEO of an NGO called SSS i.e Sai Swayam Society that focuses on the empowerment of Deaf individuals through education, skill training, and livelihood generation. The organization is a platform for providing basic education in all subjects. It also teaches deaf-mute kids how to communicate in the Indian Sign Language. It provides Skill Training in Retail and Hospitality and helps facilitate their placements with various companies across the country. By ensuring their mainstreaming into an inclusive society an opportunity for sustainable livelihood is offered. The organization also works as a center and safety net for counseling and assistance for the Deaf community in distress, in occupational or personal matters. On enquiring why did she choose to become a Social worker over a job? Mrs. Meera said that; It was a conscious choice to become a social worker over mainstream work. I transitioned from being a teacher of Computer Science in Modern School, Barakhamba Road to founding a socially impactful NGO. Being a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), I found my calling in Sai Swayam Society because of the realization that apart from immense satisfaction of serving this community, I could use my unique experiences to bridge the gap that keeps the Speech and Hearing Impaired (SHI) community from equal opportunities, support, and treatment. I was uniquely placed to understand both sides and bridge the difference between their conditions. I have since, worked towards their upliftment, without looking back. On enquiring about her key driving force to become a Social Worker? Ms Meera apprised that; My key driving force has been the struggles of my parents as Deaf individuals in a newly independent India and drawing knowledge, learnings and inspiration from there. I wish to continue to play my role in working for a more inclusive and equal society for the upcoming generations of the Deaf. Being a daughter to SHI parents, my association with the Deaf dates back to my childhood. Due to their support and push, I have been a Sign Language interpreter since the age of 16. Their pride at seeing me positively impact their community is priceless. Moreover, the satisfaction that follows from being a teacher and a mentor to a student is an unparalleled and deeply liberating experience and I am a teacher at heart. What’s your source of motivation? My source of motivation comes from seeing Deaf individuals pursuing meaningful careers and in leading independent lives, empowered by education. Having seen my parents struggle and persevere all their lives, knowing that I play a small role in changing things for the better for the Deaf community keeps me going each day. On enquiring How many hours a day do you work on average? She explains that; This job is an around the clock job and requires me to be available towards the youngsters who are staying at my residential facility as well as on calls for day scholars. While the formal timings are that of 9 hours but this work is my passion which requires an active engagement with young minds, I consider it a 24/7 duty. How do you balance your work and personal life? My family is very cooperative and invested in my work. I get support, encouragement, and a variety of new ideas from their inputs. Balancing a healthy work – balance requires good time management, regular assessment of changing priorities and requirements along with flexibility. During exams and recruitment drives, I barely have time for home because the focus is on ensuring the best for all students while on days when family needs me, I tweak my office working hours or work from home. However, now with covid19 work patterns have drastically changed and ramped up. On enquiring how she handles the pressure and manages stress? She explains that; When you are following your inner calling and inherent passion, pressure and stress are tools which help you reshape your goals and grow into a stronger person. Of course, a competent and driven team plays an important role especially during tough days. Most importantly, reminding myself that all challenges are for a larger purpose of positively impacting someone’s life helps you stay positive and be committed to finding solutions and delivering. On asking how she generates new ideas? she apprised that; Inspiration comes to you only when you seek it actively, in your environment, within your team, from your target audience, etc. Here, my Deaf friends, staff members and students play an important role. Their problem sharing, suggestions and feedback are valuable. However, new ideas can also be the product of the adage, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. This aptly describes the time when the world was hit by a pandemic and we had found ourselves in a position where all our physical activities were suspended. We had no other choice but to come up with a solution to keep the education initiatives running. We resumed our training classes on online apps and conducted Staff meetings more frequently than ever to understand the issues that we were facing and come up with solutions to resolve them. Tell us about the most difficult case you have worked on. In all candidness, it is important to let this out that genuinely, everything is difficult before it comes around to becoming easy. It is only in the beginning when we come across a supposedly insurmountable task that we feel uneasy because we do not know what combination of intellect, effort and resources it would take to accomplish it. However, once that is done, in hindsight everything seems achievable. A decade ago when I reached out to companies to hire Deaf workers, it seemed like a futuristic, if not impossible idea by most. Many discouraged me and advised me to stick to conventional job roles and opportunities for them. However, after years of efforts, today it is more likely that one walks into a mall or restaurant and ends up encountering a Deaf salesperson, cashier or crew member. Recently, when the pandemic hit us and the lockdown was announced, we found ourselves in an unprecedented situation. We were clueless on how to contribute positively despite the gloomy, unforseen times. However, with zeal and determination we began online skill training classes conducted in sign language for Deaf students across the country. Challenges of technology transition, network connectivity and financial burden were tackled head on. Students stuck in villages and cities were undergoing mental health deterioration and we started online counselling as well. With each passing day we made this make- shift arrangement more and more professional with every improvement. Recently, 3 months of training got completed and this difficult phase of the pandemic became synonymous with training and job placement for our students. We celebrated with a virtual graduation ceremony with the realisation that nothing is difficult if you set your mind and heart on the right path. What kinds of problems do you like to handle? Can you give us an example of how you handle them? I don’t believe that we get to choose the challenges that fall in our way. If that was the case, we wouldn’t ask for challenging times at all probably. So, I don’t detect or resist any kind of challenge. However, I do choose the intention behind solving problems which are to empower lives and bring about a change. I am working in the social development sector and I am committed to resolving the problems and issues faced by the SHI community. This may range from personal, professional, and familial issues to hearing their criticism of my initiatives for feedback and constantly coming up with new ideas to promote their sustainable livelihood and uplift their status in society. I still remember the day I was discussing the perfect qualities of a teacher with her and she broadened my vision at that time when I was in the teaching line. She has chosen this noble profession to shape and polish the character, caliber and help all her students to recognize their within potential. After spending so many years in this profession she reached the spot where every individual wants to reach but very few reach. It is said that when you see a well-functioning school, most likely, there is a good Principal behind it. A Principal who sets a vision for the school and sets clear objectives. Someone who creates the space that fosters a teacher’s professional and personal development, and encourages student’s personal growth, creativity, and their own journey of discovery. After working in the field of teaching for so many years before becoming Founder and CEO of VictoryTales, I feel, a Principal must be a pedagogical leader to dozens of teachers: observing them in the classroom, evaluating institutional performance, and helping them get the professional development opportunities. I also feel proud to apprise our readers that Ms. Neeru Bhaskar is rich in pedagogical leadership and she deals with such challenges as Principal with hundreds of students and their personal and academic challenges, besides responding to the parents, on one to one basis, each with their own expectations for the school. Visit Website On inquiring about her inclination towards choosing the teaching profession and reaching as principal how do you feel for yourself, Ms. Neeru Bhaskar explained that; The idea came to choose this profession from the responsibilities that we as kids had to shoulder from a very young age. I basically belong from Uttarakhand whereas I was born and brought up in Kanpur (UP) and my schooling has been from the prestigious 'St. Marry's convent School' of Kanpur. I dreamt of my childhood to work as an administrator and had always wanted to be an IAS officer. But due to my father’s passing away, I recognized our responsibilities at a very young age. At that time Teaching seemed to be the most suitable career option. But with the passage of time, I discovered my strength as a teacher and realized that somewhere along the way Teaching children & training & grooming them was my forte and became my passion. I still feel that “Teaching is My Calling” and I will continue to work for the students so that together we can create ideal future-ready citizens with strong civic sense coupled with responsibility and empathy for fellow human beings. How do you feel that being a Principal of a prestigious institution like DPS Jankipuram Lucknow, you can live your life for children? Like I have already mentioned, Teaching Children & helping them to Evolve is most satisfying & for a person like me, I feel it’s the sole-factor that attributes to my confidence & purpose of living. There’s a lot we can do with young minds. I feel by instilling the right values in them, we can help to build the Social Structure that we ourselves want to be a part of. It gives me a sense of fulfillment to make a child discover his/her own strengths & latent potential and help him/her evolve into a complete personality. Now as a Principal, I Feel great in doing the same with my Staff. It feels so exciting to help an Individual evolve as a Professional of superlative capabilities. Leadership lies in creating more Leaders. And I thank God for helping me continue to emerge as a leader rather than an Administrator. On inquiring about her source of motivation when she wakes up in the morning, Ms. Neeru Bhaskar conveyed her feelings and conveyed; I feel “My Profession, An Opportunity to meet My Students & My Staff & together create a constructive day” are my source of motivation. On inquiring about what challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Ms. Neeru Bhaskar apprised us that; As you know the Principal of a school has to deal with hundreds of students and their personal and academic challenges besides administrative issues. I accept these challenges every day and try to cope with them utilizing my utmost abilities that I acquired after having been in this profession for so many years. Fortunately, I have kept only the positive and constructive memories in store and keep on moving forward in my journey. Nowadays stress at work is an increasingly common feature of modern life, on enquiring from Ms. Neeru Bhaskar about how she handles the pressure and manages stress which comes in her life, she explains that; I love to interact with the Tiny Tots of Pre-Primaries whenever I feel stressed and they have always helped me to revive my spirit & made me feel rejuvenated. I have always kept my Connect with the Almighty Above. I completely trust Him & believe in the Power of Prayer and I feel that “Sai has been my Strength Always.” On inquiring about one strategy that she believes has helped her grow as a woman, Ms. Neeru Bhaskar apprise that; I believe Integrity & Genuine Hard Work has helped me evolve both professionally & personally. I have never compromised on the Quality of my work output. Mediocrity has never been a part of my working style. On inquiring about her opinion about “the keys to success”, she explains that ; Frankly speaking, your success doesn’t happen by chance. It takes strategic actions in the right direction to get you there. I believe only Hard work, Genuine efforts & Honest Wok-Approach makes one’s ladder of success. On asking Ms. Neeru Bhaskar about the advice she would like to give to someone to become something in their life? she replied politely that; To any aspiring professional, I would like to say that no matter which profession you choose, please ensure you invest honest inputs before you want to receive profitable outputs. That would help you achieve longevity goals. Sai Poorna Patnaik Founder Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. I chose entrepreneurship over my corporate career because I always wanted to make an impact. I have always been intrigued by entrepreneurship and read success stories of all the successful entrepreneurs. You see – It’s fascinating how you build something from the scratch to an empire around it and this is not everyone can do it. It takes a lot of courage, planning, perseverance, hard work, teamwork, combined with good strategy & execution skills. ‘Kansaltancy Ventures’ is such a unique name; talk us through more about it, please. Our audience would also love to know what kind of problem you are solving with the help of your startup? Kansaltancy Ventures is an eponym from surname in my name – Tushar Kansal. A large part of our work in assisting startups and companies and working closely with them, mentoring them on various aspects, like getting business for them from our relationships, management concepts and providing a way forward. Because of the Consulting nature of this engagement which we have with companies, I thought that having “Consultancy” rhyming first word as the first name, would be very suitable. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business faced Covid, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with challenges of the pandemic. Our business model consists of a lean team which is not at all resource-heavy and has minimal overheads. The freelancer model ensures each work can be handled remotely, where we don’t need to do physical meetings Every aspect of the business is online and tech-enabled to ensure automation as much as possible. How do you manage yourself and keep on going despite the challenges? What drives you? I always try to make sure that I empower the right people for the right work. This way I do not feel overburdened with work that leads to stress. In my free time, I try to travel, spend time with my family, and try to maintain my work-life balance as much as possible. Travelling helps me clear my mind and focus on issues that need my attention. I am also into Yoga and Pranayam, which keeps my whole energy system balanced. I also learnt much about Naturopathy, which my family follows in the past 30 years. Being in naturopathy has kept me away from too much hard medicine and instead relying on nature cures. In your opinion - what is more necessary: Idea or a good team for a successful startup? I have seen companies with very innovative ideas with niche market segment fail just because they lacked proper team spirit in them.” To be successful, you should team up with co-founders who share your vision behind the idea, and you also need to hire the right people for the right position so that it gets implemented in a proper way. The Investors always bank a lot on the team – they believe that if the Team is good, even if the product is not perfect, it can be made perfect. Even if the Business Model is not good, the team will pivot to the right one eventually. You are always positive and motivated, what keeps you going? I love my work. Anything you do in life you have to have a passion for it and should not feel like working. I am also the eternal optimist and like to see the Glass half full! Your ability to do something in the world essentially depends on the extent to which you can harness your body and mind towards your goal, and after that, harnessing the situation in which you exist. But the most fundamental things are that your body and mind function not only to the best of their ability, but the way you want them to. If you bring your mind to a certain level of organization, it in turn organizes the other three dimensions of your system – your body , emotion , and energies . We would love to know your advice for all those starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and see them as an opportunity to learn. #1 Before you leap, look! - Many possibilities always mean trouble. To be able to identify which one of these possibilities you should go with is a certain exercise. The problem is people jump into something and then exercise their mind – no. Before you jump into something, it needs to be looked at with enough attention because once you jump into something, there should be no looking back. If you are constantly looking at the rearview mirror, you are not going to go forward. #2 Enhance your perception – See life the way it is. If you are born afresh, that means you have no conclusions about anything. You are willing to look at everything like you are just born. If you can see life just the way it is, you have the necessary intelligence to conduct it well. If you are not able to see life the way it is, your intelligence will work against you. #3 Your ability to pay attention is key. If a human being has to break through their limitations, the most important quality is steadiness of attention. Your ability to manage anything is directly proportional to the level of attention and observation that you have. #4 Put your life into whatever you do - Whatever the path you jump onto is not the best thing to do. You can never do the best thing in the world. Whatever you jump into, if you really put your life into it, it can become a great thing. Do not ever try to do the best thing because if you try to do the best thing, you will waste your life trying to be better than someone else. #5 Take charge of your inner situation - Either you allow your destiny to be an accident, or you allow your destiny to be your intent, that is a choice you have. Either you allow the situations to make you something or you make the situations the way you want them. What are the business mantras you have embraced as you sought to establish your success story? Getting the right opportunity and performing to the best of your capability when you get that opportunity. To get that opportunity, I present myself as a brand. I prepare myself to give in my best shot at each and every opportunity that comes my way. "People who are right a lot listen a lot, and they change their mind a lot. People who are right a lot change their mind without a lot of new data. They wake up and reanalyze things and change their mind. If you don’t change your mind frequently, you’re going to be wronged a lot. People who are right a lot want to disconfirm their fundamental biases." What are the three most important lessons you have learned building your startup? I’ve learned to not compare myself to other successful men who seem to have it all together. Invariably, things are not always as they seem, and no one has it all together. I have also learned how important it is to embrace change because, at any given time, you will need to shift strategies due to circumstances beyond your control. Lesson 1 : Approach your relationship with your founding team as you would a marriage Lesson 2 : Your startup has limited eggs, don’t place them in so many baskets Lesson 3 : Only hire those you could see yourself working for Given the rapid pace at which the world is changing, what are the leadership traits that are necessary for success? I firmly believe in the 14 Amazon leadership principles: Customer Obsession - Leaders start with the customer and work backwards. They work vigorously to earn and keep customer trust. Although leaders pay attention to competitors, they obsess over customers. Ownership - Leaders are owners. They think long term and don’t sacrifice long-term value for short-term results. They act on behalf of the entire company, beyond just their own team. They never say “that’s not my job." Invent and Simplify - Leaders expect and require innovation and invention from their teams and always find ways to simplify. They are externally aware, look for new ideas from everywhere, and are not limited by “not invented here." As we do new things, we accept that we may be misunderstood for long periods of time. Are Right, A Lot - Leaders are right a lot. They have strong judgment and good instincts. They seek diverse perspectives and work to disconfirm their beliefs. Learn and Be Curious - Leaders are never done learning and always seek to improve themselves. They are curious about new possibilities and act to explore them. Hire and Develop the Best - Leaders raise the performance bar with every hire and promotion. They recognize exceptional talent, and willingly move them throughout the organization. Leaders develop leaders and take seriously their role in coaching others. We work on behalf of our people to invent mechanisms for development like Career Choice. Insist on the Highest Standards - Leaders have relentlessly high standards — many people may think these standards are unreasonably high. Leaders are continually raising the bar and drive their teams to deliver high quality products, services, and processes. Leaders ensure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed. Think Big - Thinking small is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Leaders create and communicate a bold direction that inspires results. They think differently and look around corners for ways to serve customers. Bias for Action - Speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk taking. Frugality - Accomplish more with less. Constraints breed resourcefulness, self-sufficiency, and invention. There are no extra points for growing headcount, budget size, or fixed expense. Earn Trust - Leaders listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully. They are vocally self-critical, even when doing so is awkward or embarrassing. Leaders do not believe their or their team’s body odour smells of perfume. They benchmark themselves and their teams against the best. Dive Deep - Leaders operate at all levels, stay connected to the details, audit frequently, and are sceptical when metrics and anecdote differ. No task is beneath them. Have Backbone ; Disagree and Commit - Leaders are obligated to respectfully challenge decisions when they disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. Leaders have conviction and are tenacious. They do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, they commit wholly. Deliver Results - Leaders focus on the key inputs for their business and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, they rise to the occasion and never settle. Please share with us - What has worked well for you so far? One thing I would say that helped me and my company grow is the ability to listen to our customers. We believe that customers are not interested in products but in getting their problems resolved. The more we listen to them, the problems they face in their business, the more efficiently and effectively we can resolve them. We believe that we are capable to do that, and it is the only reason for our growth. To know more about Tushar Kansal and his views:- Tushar Kansal on Latoken Venture Capital Tv (VCTV) . To know more about the company kindly Visit Website . Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur. The idea to start something like this venture came in my mind during March 2020 while in lockdown when world has seen most people losing their jobs and businesses were getting closed. The idea behind starting this was to boost the economy of the small and domestic craftsmen or manufacturers who were proceeding towards the closure as the world was going to standstill with unlimited period keeping in view the seriousness of the Covid 19 situation around the world. Since there are very limited resources for small businessmen and especially the craftsmen, the thought came in mind to help them buy starting an e-commerce platform where people can buy and sell things from online portal by remaining indoors. Since I was pursuing my studies and living in Canada at that time and as an international student it was hard like probably not possible to develop business in Canada, but the idea was appealing to me and I was determined to start at the earliest. I made my mind to start it from India our own country which is always open for their citizens and got one more concept to focus for the time being on selling “Make in India” products on our e-commerce platform where our Indian small as well as big manufacturer gets chance to grow and explore their business. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Since I was pursuing my studies in Canada, but due to the covid situation no one was aware that the situations are going to be so bad and the world is going to standstill. Doing job was not in my mind as I was inclined towards establishing business and becoming one day and entrepreneur to help the small businessmen to give an online platform to sell their products. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? My self determination to help small businessmen who do not have digital marketing space to sell their products was my key driving force to become an entrepreneur. It was hard for me to startup things from Canada as things were going to happen in India. Interaction with the small businessmen was the main concern and while remaining in Canada it was virtually going hard initially but I managed to handle things for first 2 months single handed with the blessings and help of my parents. Things were developing in fast pace and I need a team, so I started putting up Advertisement on job portals. After almost one month, I got one female candidate, UK born Indian lady named as “Ms Payal Patel” living in India. She is the Head of operation of my team at present and she has over 18 years of experience in operation field working with UK government as well. Me from Canada and she from India started managing things in proper manner which were not in organized manner before and then as per requirements we had to get two more candidates without having any initial investments. What’s your source of motivation? My source of motivation is myself confident to help the small businessmen who are struggling to sell their products despite best in their product type. To implement my vision to become an entrepreneur I used to drive Uber for almost 10-12 hrs per day to earn and pay salary to employees. I started searching for investor and with one to two pitch I got one investor with that I got to explore the team as it was pretty hard to get vendors onboard, at present I have team of 8 experienced people who are leading the idea, now to manage and organize the things it was pretty hard to do it from Canada, so I came to India in November 2020 and completed the legal things forming Pvt Ltd company, and launched the venture on 22nd January 2021. We have enough of investment for few more months so still looking for more investment to make this “Make in India” concept a Brand and provide the Make in India products in foreign countries as well. Initially I was just having one segment of simple multi-vendor e-commerce platform, but with the exploration of team I got many more different segments which are problem solving for everyone for govt, for businesses, for people and can also help businesses grow and get chance to explore their product in foreign countries. My journey to reach this level is indeed my source of motivation for the time being. How many hours a day do you work on average? Since I am in the implementing stage of my venture and working hours a day do not matters to me. I am working round the clock to make my venture a successful so as my team of personnel who are working with me are also with me in materialising the things in write directions. What is the uniqueness of your startup? My startup “DamaCas” is an E-commerce marketplace which showcases products which are only made in India. We offer a platform for small and medium businesses to reach an audience to sell their items on a B2C platform with no additional charges. We are empowering people to come onto the DamaCas platform, even for those suppliers who have never thought of showcasing their products online. We are solving several problems like some marketplaces having inadequate technology, poor customer experiences, lock of global applicability and a lack of structured logistics processes. We aim to branch out into many other verticals once we have established a strong backbone in the B2C market in India. This includes expanding the portal to other countries, exporting Indian goods, promoting NGO’s and their products, encouraging local artisans to sell online, having a B2B segment and advanced technological solutions in E-commerce. Our unique Segments are: B2C concept of “Make in India.” “Collaborating with NGOs who does the production where people get employment with the growth of their product”, We are also showcasing handicraft products on our portal, “We are also bringing unique segment that is “Delivery segment” where people can buy online from any local shop in the city and we can the thing delivered within few hours, “We are also integrating service provider segment where every service provider can get register and provide the service to their clients.” How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? Step back and put the problem in perspective, list some solutions to the problems and come up with a plan is my way of managing stress and easing pressure. How did you come up with the name for your company? It was actually not so simple for me to choose the name initially, first to just start the things i gave the name sampzkart.com, but it was not suitable at all globally or at any level, i got to took almost 2 months to prepare the name, but at last it got simple i choose initial letters of my family i.e D stants for Dilip(father) A in between always stands for “And” M stands for “Manisha” (mother) C stands for “_Chiku” _ (My Late sister) and at last S stands for “Samip” (Thats ME)__Damacas also refers to something else in terms of brand i.e “Do Admire Multi-branded Aesthetic Channel for All Shopoholic” “DamaCas”. What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? The only piece of advice I would like to give to the college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs is to listen to your field interest and find the possibility of becoming a successful person to serve the humanity and to earn with positive ways of development.
