  • Interview with Parth Birendra & Sahil Chopra, undefined of HappyNature

< All Interviews Parth Birendra & Sahil Chopra Entrepreneur We as VictoryTales team keep scrolling for more and more meaningful and powerful stories from around the world to empower and motivate our growing community of entrepreneurs, this time we are introducing two school friends Parth Birendra and Sahil Chopra who happily drove us to drink more fresh milk-naturally. In less than two years, school pals Parth Birendra and Sahil Chopra have delivered a fundamental grass-to-glass concept that has redefined the humble milk round in Delhi NCR - and quenched families' demands for farm-fresh, natural milk. Share this Interview: Know more about HappyNature How School Friends Happily Drove Us to Drink More Fresh Milk - Naturally! How School Friends Happily Drove Us to Drink More Fresh Milk - Naturally! From delivering just ~20 liters of milk to their neighborhood apartment block on their first day of operations, the Happy Nature entrepreneurs now oversee a farm-fresh foods brand that delivers 2000 liters of milk equivalent through their dairy and non-dairy products daily to customers’ doorsteps. Their brand is now recognized as a significant player in the premium milk industry in the city. At the heart of the Happy Nature brand is a serious commitment towards quality of products & service through a strong focus on the entire value chain - From production to processing and finally to delivery – best quality standards and hygiene are maintained across all touch-points. While milk continues to be their anchor product, they have expanded their product-base by adding other dairy products (ghee, paneer, and cheese) and non-dairy essentials such as artisan bread, premium eggs, natural honey and hydroponic salad leaves to their portfolio. All products are healthy, natural, and free from harmful chemicals & adulteration. "We have moved rapidly from when we first set up in October 2018, and now have an annual turnover of about 5 Cr," commented Parth, who with Sahil, is an alumni of Don Bosco School, Delhi. Both are Engineers and MBAs - Parth from AIM, Manila, and Sahil from DCE, Delhi & XLRI Jamshedpur. With one of the few integrated delivery companies of milk and associated fresh products in New Delhi, the company has attracted additional investments. It has since merged with Doozy Farms in Chandigarh and Wise Cow, in Gurgaon, to offer a complete Delhi NCR region-wide presence. It's a far cry from when Parth and Sahil first began to exchange business ideas in one of their regular weekly calls while working in different parts of the world as management consultants. "Our conversations revolved around new business opportunities that existed in the Indian market. The fact that we were traveling extensively over the last five years gave us a perspective on how and which industries were growing globally and where these opportunities could fit within the Indian business landscape," highlighted Sahil. Discussions narrowed down to farm-fresh, healthy food products. Parth added: "We realized no single company in the food space was catering to the various breakfast table requirements. Consumers had to buy from multiple vendors and various brands to complete their breakfast basket. That's where our opportunity lay." Having both worked as corporate strategy consultants, they gained unique insights and experience into the global world of sales and operations strategy. They were joined by Vishal Rastogi, at Happy Nature as a company director, and crucially with significant experience in the dairy industry. He also had a strong IT background with an engineering degree from IIT Roorkee and MBA from IIFT, Delhi. The team began small and local - experimenting in their hometown! "We began with farm-fresh cow's milk as our first product before expanding into other products, with the same commitment of serving the purest, freshest and healthiest food products available," Sahil said. The entrepreneurs have also witnessed and served at every level of the business, including getting up at 4 am to personally manage and handle doorstep deliveries. "Having those foundation stones set right enabled us to build a strong and stable business structure for the future," added Parth. Those early steps included raising their milk supplies to 200 litres daily within 4 months of starting operations, all thanks to them relentlessly attending every Diwali Mela and Christmas carnival in and around South Delhi. Sahil added: "Sitting on a stagnant volume was unacceptable and experiencing a drop-off in orders during summer months was quite unexpected & demotivating for a 6-month-old startup despite the fact that this pattern is inherent to such a business. We worked extra hard going door-to-door, expanding our coverage while keeping a check on our expenses to ensure that we kept growing. "Come December; we were at 500 litres daily, including milk and products, before hitting 2000 litres a day in June 2020." Highlighting how they strive to set themselves apart from competitors, Sahil highlighted that our focus on not just product quality but also premium packaging, efficient delivery, and relentless focus on customer service is what sets us apart. Parth added that having the best-in-class facilities at the dairy farm was crucial to serving customers the best product in the market and differentiating our product from the commercially available milk brands: "Our cows are provided with the best health care facilities with regular check-ups performed by certified veterinary doctors. Any cow which falls sick is separated from the herd and provided specialized treatment. Milk from only the healthy cows is supplied to consumers." The hi-tech milking process involves automated milking, in-line pasteurization, and touch-free packaging eliminating human interference and the risk of adulteration. Daily lab tests further reinforce the commitment to providing 100% pure and natural milk. With the elimination of middlemen and with a robust cold chain that ensures the milk is delivered in the healthiest possible form within a few hours of milk production, Vishal said. Their in-house forecasting tools and methodologies also help to predict demand for milk accurately and accordingly plan for timely farm expansions. Parth commented : "Our startup is unique because we are the only doorstep delivery model company which serves such a wide variety of essential food products under one brand while maintaining the best possible standards of product quality, delivery service, and customer care”. "Our strong focus on a " customer-first " strategy ensures not just excellent service but also offers insights on future services and products that we can launch to make their lives even more convenient.", said Sahil All three then concluded: "Every day, we at Happy Nature endeavor to provide families with the healthiest, tastiest and freshest food products produced in cruelty–free, hygienic and modern facilities. With each product, we win your trust which encourages us to keep getting better" Sai Poorna Patnaik Founder Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. AAC is also planning to open a primary school in Village Ghoniya, Bisalpur very soon where Mr. Brijesh Mittal, founder of AAC was having the first Distillation Plant of Lemongrass Oil in the 1960's. The company is also donating many sports products to the primary schools of villages. On inquiring from where did the idea to start something like Aromatic & Allied Chemicals came from and requesting him to tell us about his background and his journey as entrepreneur, Mr Gaurav Mittal apprised that ; Since I was involved with the experiences of my father in the field of Natural essential oils, I always have been smelling the fragrance when my father used to come back home from his farms. Generally my father used to smell fresh tones of lemongrass and rosy tones of Palmarosa with surroundings of menthol. It was a mixture of all these smells that I experienced in my childhood. My father, knowing the future of this natural essential oil industry and my passion for perfumery started developing my skills in the same field. In order to get this streamlined from the start, all was well planned and I did my bachelors and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from one of the most reputed institutes of India. Thereafter, I pursued my Master’s degree in Perfumery from ISIPCA, France – the only institute giving the best perfumers of the world. After carrying out my another master’s degree from France, I did Masters in Business Management in Aroma Technology from Plymouth University, UK All the above qualifications made me get into the world of Perfumery and I then started my first job with International Fragrance and Flavors in Dubai, Holland and France. After a few years I then shifted my job to Givaudan (which is the world’s biggest F&F house) and within a few months got selected to be trained in Givaudan Perfumery School in Paris which evolves the world’s best perfumers. Unfortunately during my training period in France, I lost my father and then I have to come back leaving my dreams and passion for perfumery. After coming back to India, I took over my family business ‘Aromatic And Allied Chemicals’ (established in the year 1977) which was involved in farming of Aromatic Crops and production of Pure Essential OIls. However the shock of losing dreams , passion and father really shattered my life and thought of giving up. But what kept me alive in perfumery was the smell of the Natural Essential Oils and it has always been coming in my mind to kick start something new. I then started exploring different parts of India and numerous aromatic crops. With the help of Scientific institutes, I started helping farmers to grow different aromatic crops and extracting essential oils from the same. Using those natural essential oils, I started making the natural blends and finally was able to convert my passion for perfumery into a beautiful composition in the form of a Natural Perfume. The pure Essential Oils that we were extracting also helped me to get into the world market. This is how I am finally very happy to be the Owner of Aromatic And Allied Chemicals where I am keeping my passion alive and also helping my farmers and their families with many works and their requirements. On enquiring from him about the choosing entrepreneurship over job, Mr Gaurav Mittal narrated that; To choose entrepreneurship over a job, I think was the need of the hour and as I told you, I was a Trainee Perfumer with Givaudan Perfumery School in Paris, France in 2010 before shifting to India after the sad demise of my father Shri Brijesh Mittal. I have seen my father in raising this Business since my childhood and was fortunate enough that I attained the best qualifications available in this field and carried forward my family business for which I am being brought up. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? Mr Gaurav said that; The Key driving force was the social work that my father was involved in. My father was associated with more than 5000 farmer families for whom he was actively working and helping them to meet their needs. When I came back from France to complete the rituals of my father, those poor farmers and their families forced my mind to leave my luxurious job and come back to India and support them. This is from where I started exploring farming & then cultivating the numerous aromatic crops with those farmers and became a successful entrepreneur. Now we are one of the leading producers & exporters of Organic Essential Oil & Natural Essential Oils of India. On enquiring How many hours a day do you work on average? He explains that; You see being an entrepreneur and a social worker you need to struggle hard to find appropriate working hours but normally I am working almost 12 hours minimum to forward the venture at new heights and using around 06(six) hours sleep to attain energy besides slipping almost for 04 (four) hours for workout. On enquiring about the uniqueness of his company - Aromatic & Allied Chemicals? Gaurav apprised that; Aromatic & Allied Chemicals i.e AAC is certainly unique in the field of Natural and Organic Oils to Fragrances in the world. It is now exporting a wide range of products from Natural Essentials Oil and Organic Certified Essential Oils to Fragrances in the world market. Now, AAC is the only company in India, having projects which are GMO FREE Certified & Fair Trade Certified – thus assuring the oils we are manufacturing are free from any modification and adulteration and also we are following the International standards of Fair Trade and Fair for Life giving equality to all. Apart from this, AAC is also ISO 9001:2015, HACCP, WHO GMP Certified and her products are KOSHER, HALAL, and EU/NOP/NPOP Organic Certified. On asking how he generates new ideas ? he explains that; I have unique ways to generate new ideas for myself. I wish if such needs come and I have to generate some new ideas, then I would prefer to sit in a lonely place near to the Himalayas. Besides this I also get something in my mind while I am on some international visits and moves in search for understanding the market and consumer needs. On asking what piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? Mr Gaurav said that; Some things that have helped me and I would like to share with the college graduates who wanted to become entrepreneurs are that: Never give up on your dreams and keep moving forward to chase your dreams. Ltd., belonging to the group, is a young company engaged in the manufacturing of an entire range of paper products and stationery for students and executives alike. On enquiring background about Mr. Rahul Todi, and his journey as an entrepreneur, he apprises us that; The idea to start a notebook brand besides the family Real Estate business came from a thought process that our family business was geographically restricted to West Bengal and due to the success in Real Estate involving direct consumer interaction, I thought of launching an exciting children focussed brand and starting with a “notebook”. It was a good way to establish our presence across the country. I belong to a family where overall interest as mentioned is in Real Estate, Agro, and Engineering. My first personal venture was in IT which I started with two of my college mates from Australia and we grew the business to about 1300 people in IT Services. We sold the company to Manpower Inc which is a global manpower services company. On requesting him, why did he choose entrepreneurship over a job? he explains that; I think from very early in my childhood I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I belong to a multi-generation business family who have been in business throughout their life. So I have grown up seeing my father being an entrepreneur which probably inspired me to be an entrepreneur myself rather than doing any job. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? This industry is very exciting and challenging. Exciting because every day is new; everyday you are building something; every day you are planning and looking at each project in a new way. One of the most fulfilling parts is the fact that to see something you envision in your head, then to plan for it and finally to see it being built, is one of the most enriching experiences about the industry. On enquiring about what gets him out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s his source of motivation? Mr. Rahul explains that Motivation ! The most important thing one needs in life. Motivation is the prerequisite for better performance. Intelligence, hard work, talent- everything is a mere waste without motivation. My source of motivation, I believe, is creating something new and my family. On enquiring about the challenges/obstacles he faced in his journey so far, Mr. Rahul narrates that; Challenges and Obstacles are always a part of any journey and naturally my journey has been no different. One of the biggest challenges I feel every entrepreneur faces is a failure and also in your entrepreneurial journey you are bound to make some mistakes which might lead you to business losses, and also might lead you to some distractions. In our mind we feel these obstacles and challenges as a problem but if you use it as a learning for your next venture or the next part of your venture you will surely overcome the obstacles and challenges. One straight question, how do you handle the pressure and manage stress: It is easier said than done and every individual has his own way of managing stress and pressure. Pressure and stress are part of the entrepreneurial journey and we all must learn to handle pressure and stress. To be very honest there is no formula that can work for everyone. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? The one strategy or believe that has helped me is the intent to do good work. A lot of problems and issues will arise doing these part and temptations are there to change your path but in the end, if you have honesty and if you have the intention to create a great business or a great product and service you will succeed. Personally this has helped me to grow and come to the stage where I am today. Sai Poorna Patnaik Founder Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. Can you please tell us the kind of work you do as a “Social Worker”? I am the Founder – CEO of an NGO called SSS i.e Sai Swayam Society that focuses on the empowerment of Deaf individuals through education, skill training, and livelihood generation. The organization is a platform for providing basic education in all subjects. It also teaches deaf-mute kids how to communicate in the Indian Sign Language. It provides Skill Training in Retail and Hospitality and helps facilitate their placements with various companies across the country. By ensuring their mainstreaming into an inclusive society an opportunity for sustainable livelihood is offered. The organization also works as a center and safety net for counseling and assistance for the Deaf community in distress, in occupational or personal matters. On enquiring why did she choose to become a Social worker over a job? Mrs. Meera said that; It was a conscious choice to become a social worker over mainstream work. I transitioned from being a teacher of Computer Science in Modern School, Barakhamba Road to founding a socially impactful NGO. Being a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), I found my calling in Sai Swayam Society because of the realization that apart from immense satisfaction of serving this community, I could use my unique experiences to bridge the gap that keeps the Speech and Hearing Impaired (SHI) community from equal opportunities, support, and treatment. I was uniquely placed to understand both sides and bridge the difference between their conditions. I have since, worked towards their upliftment, without looking back. On enquiring about her key driving force to become a Social Worker? Ms Meera apprised that; My key driving force has been the struggles of my parents as Deaf individuals in a newly independent India and drawing knowledge, learnings and inspiration from there. I wish to continue to play my role in working for a more inclusive and equal society for the upcoming generations of the Deaf. Being a daughter to SHI parents, my association with the Deaf dates back to my childhood. Due to their support and push, I have been a Sign Language interpreter since the age of 16. Their pride at seeing me positively impact their community is priceless. Moreover, the satisfaction that follows from being a teacher and a mentor to a student is an unparalleled and deeply liberating experience and I am a teacher at heart. What’s your source of motivation? My source of motivation comes from seeing Deaf individuals pursuing meaningful careers and in leading independent lives, empowered by education. Having seen my parents struggle and persevere all their lives, knowing that I play a small role in changing things for the better for the Deaf community keeps me going each day. On enquiring How many hours a day do you work on average? She explains that; This job is an around the clock job and requires me to be available towards the youngsters who are staying at my residential facility as well as on calls for day scholars. While the formal timings are that of 9 hours but this work is my passion which requires an active engagement with young minds, I consider it a 24/7 duty. How do you balance your work and personal life? My family is very cooperative and invested in my work. I get support, encouragement, and a variety of new ideas from their inputs. Balancing a healthy work – balance requires good time management, regular assessment of changing priorities and requirements along with flexibility. During exams and recruitment drives, I barely have time for home because the focus is on ensuring the best for all students while on days when family needs me, I tweak my office working hours or work from home. However, now with covid19 work patterns have drastically changed and ramped up. On enquiring how she handles the pressure and manages stress? She explains that; When you are following your inner calling and inherent passion, pressure and stress are tools which help you reshape your goals and grow into a stronger person. Of course, a competent and driven team plays an important role especially during tough days. Most importantly, reminding myself that all challenges are for a larger purpose of positively impacting someone’s life helps you stay positive and be committed to finding solutions and delivering. On asking how she generates new ideas? she apprised that; Inspiration comes to you only when you seek it actively, in your environment, within your team, from your target audience, etc. Here, my Deaf friends, staff members and students play an important role. Their problem sharing, suggestions and feedback are valuable. However, new ideas can also be the product of the adage, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. This aptly describes the time when the world was hit by a pandemic and we had found ourselves in a position where all our physical activities were suspended. We had no other choice but to come up with a solution to keep the education initiatives running. We resumed our training classes on online apps and conducted Staff meetings more frequently than ever to understand the issues that we were facing and come up with solutions to resolve them. Tell us about the most difficult case you have worked on. In all candidness, it is important to let this out that genuinely, everything is difficult before it comes around to becoming easy. It is only in the beginning when we come across a supposedly insurmountable task that we feel uneasy because we do not know what combination of intellect, effort and resources it would take to accomplish it. However, once that is done, in hindsight everything seems achievable. A decade ago when I reached out to companies to hire Deaf workers, it seemed like a futuristic, if not impossible idea by most. Many discouraged me and advised me to stick to conventional job roles and opportunities for them. However, after years of efforts, today it is more likely that one walks into a mall or restaurant and ends up encountering a Deaf salesperson, cashier or crew member. Recently, when the pandemic hit us and the lockdown was announced, we found ourselves in an unprecedented situation. We were clueless on how to contribute positively despite the gloomy, unforseen times. However, with zeal and determination we began online skill training classes conducted in sign language for Deaf students across the country. Challenges of technology transition, network connectivity and financial burden were tackled head on. Students stuck in villages and cities were undergoing mental health deterioration and we started online counselling as well. With each passing day we made this make- shift arrangement more and more professional with every improvement. Recently, 3 months of training got completed and this difficult phase of the pandemic became synonymous with training and job placement for our students. We celebrated with a virtual graduation ceremony with the realisation that nothing is difficult if you set your mind and heart on the right path. What kinds of problems do you like to handle? Can you give us an example of how you handle them? I don’t believe that we get to choose the challenges that fall in our way. If that was the case, we wouldn’t ask for challenging times at all probably. So, I don’t detect or resist any kind of challenge. However, I do choose the intention behind solving problems which are to empower lives and bring about a change. I am working in the social development sector and I am committed to resolving the problems and issues faced by the SHI community. This may range from personal, professional, and familial issues to hearing their criticism of my initiatives for feedback and constantly coming up with new ideas to promote their sustainable livelihood and uplift their status in society. Mr. Bikash is an inspiration for generations to come who struggled from childhood and reached his heights with his own courage and will to do something in life. On inquiring from where did the idea to start something like Bikash’s Quantum came from and requesting him to tell us about his background and his journey as entrepreneur, Mr Bikash apprised that “Bad days teach us for the best life. That same happened to me. Born and raised in a poor family in a small town Banki in Odisha State, India understands that education is the only way to come out of the poor situation. I wholeheartedly remained focused on my studies and each time became the topper of my class from Ist standard to Class 12. I still remember my bad days when I joined IISER Kolkata, my life seems not worked, like before. I struggled for three years of my crucial stage without any guidance in absence of good teachers or friends to get help from them during those days till I met professor Panigrahi of IISER Kolkata which came in my life as a guiding force who was in the field of quantum computing. With my inclination towards Quantum Computing, I decided to go in this field and explore more about Quantum Computing. One day after returning from my college vacations, I met Prof. Panigrahi with strong emotions and told him that “I want to make my career in this field with you”. He gave me a warm handshake which I never believed and my journey started like foliage of the bay tree woven on my head as an emblem of victory in my life. Finally after struggling to learn in the field of quantum computing for almost one year, finally I made my debut in this field with a research paper on a Quantum Cheque and its realization using a 5-qubit IBM’s quantum computer, which was highlighted in the new scientist magazine. I feel proud to convey my gratitude to my guide Prof. Panigrahi and my Institute with IISER Kolkata who felt proud of my achievements. From then, I never stopped exploring this field of quantum computing and will also do all I can in the rest of my life for this rapidly growing field. From July 2017 to till date, I have produced more than 125 research publications in the field of quantum computing. Throughout the journey, I got my lucky charm and, I and my wife have made our google to dedicate our all to this field. I was planning to start a quantum computing company. I had this dream in my life every passing day and night. Finally, I made it and started the company Bikash’s Quantum and now, both I and my wife have a determination to remain unstoppable in this field being an entrepreneur. On inquiring from Mr Bikash, why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? He explains that; As is evident from the meaning of my name “Bikash” which is “to make progress”, my arduous search for making progress in life never makes me satisfied to have a comfortable life with limited growth. I rather prefer to grow unlimited and indeed love to take risks. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? I feel fortunate to have chosen this field, as it’s the next future. I believe that the field of quantum computing will bring new technologies and will revolutionize the whole world, and the whole industry. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? I feel my dream to explore quantum computing, my inner targeted goal, and my responsibility which wakes me up are my source of motivation. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Sometimes you will have money, sometimes you will be out of money, have to struggle with all the good and bad situations. I respect all the situations, at bad times, I learn and at good times, I think of improvisation. On inquiring about the uniqueness of his startup, Mr Bikash explains that; Our startup is dedicated to quantum research and quantum technology. Students, faculties, professors, researchers, institutions, companies whoever working in the field of quantum computing will be able to learn and earn using our platform. Our goal is to accelerate this field in doing research and developing technology, and make realize its true power in the near future. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? If there is pressure then it will be obvious that stress will come but “Staying calm, go to sleep and wakeup with full of ardent zeal and energy” is the success mantra of mine to handle Pressure and Stress. On inquiring that what is one strategy that he believe has helped him grow as a person/startup, Mr Bikash apprise that; “Leadership skill. Taking risks and helping others in achieving their success” has made me grow as a person/startup. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I advise anyone who is starting out as an entrepreneur, to first make your goal clear, then keep on doing, the world will say no to you, keep on doing, then the world will say no to you, keep on doing, then the world will say no to you, keep on doing, keep on doing, keep on doing, and keep on doing, finally you will become a success, and then the world will clap for you. • Interview with Simran Sahni, Founder and Creative Director of TheGoddess

< All Interviews Simran Sahni Founder and Creative Director Women Entrepreneur VictoryTales with its objective to bring inspiring personalities from around the world and to share their inspiring journey, this time we are introducing Ms Simran Sahni, Founder & Creative Director of the “Goddess”. Simran started Goddess because she believes that women are equally, if not more creative. But sadly, the industry is dominated by only male creative stalwarts. Not only does Goddess seek to canvas meaningful content and campaigns for women targeted brands, but also desires to impact the highly precarious position that women hold in today’s new age India. As a young girl Simran was always enamoured by the power of advertising and how creativity could give definition and identity to inanimate brands. Simran also has determined that in today’s changed idealistic scenario, she can be a game changer, by not typecasting but understanding the new dreams and aspirations of women around the world. Simran is an army kid and have travelled a lot due to her father’s postings. So right from the beginning, at home every time she moved to a different place, made new friends and un-packed our boxes, it opened a new world within her. She guesses much of her inclusivity and opening boxes spirit comes from there. Having worked for over 17 years on top brands like NOKIA, LAYS, BOOST, PEPSI, SAMSUNG, across the top agencies in the country like LOWE, JWT, BATES, CHEIL and having won golds and slivers awards at the most prestigious advertising festivals across the world. Cannes, Cleo, Adfest… She believes she still needed to open more boxes! Share this Interview: Know more about TheGoddess Goddess Advertising is India’s only, all-female creative boutique and powerhouse lead, managed, and defined by women challenging the rigid norms of a massively male dominated industry. “I started Goddess because I believe that women are equally, if not more, creative. But sadly, the industry is dominated by only male creative stalwarts. I often wondered what was keeping strong, capable and super creative women away from the limelight? We seek to canvas meaningful content and campaigns for women targeted brands, but also desires to impact the highly precarious position that women hold in today’s new age India. “As a young girl I was always enamoured by the power of advertising and how creativity could give definition and identity to inanimate brands. I remember watching sanitary napkin ads where the girls wore tight white pants and climbed rocks, and always wondered WHY?? Why would any woman with cramps and heavy bleeding want to do this stunt? In today’s changed millennial scenario, we can be game changers, by not typecasting but understanding the new dreams and aspirations of women”. “But we are not feminists, we are empowerists! It’s not that we only work on women brands, we work across brands that excite us, have strong stories to tell, because we always come from a space of emotional intelligence and defining aesthetics”. Goddess Advertising is here to change the current landscape of women targeted advertising. They can be reached out at simran@thegoddess.in and suruchidutt@thegoddess.in . Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? One day I was sitting at a high-profile meeting with at least 20 senior planning and accounts people in the room. After I had made the creative presentation, each one had a speaking role, on how this idea does not work, is too far ahead of its time, is too clever, is not what the client will buy, can we tone it down, can we reimagine it, It’s great but… Now, I have an irrational fear of what follows the word ‘BUT”, Cause then it makes everything before the BUT irrelevant. And sitting there listening to the cacophony of opinions, I realized that this is not what I want. If I have to work so hard, first on the idea, second on convincing 20 people, then third, I’d rather work hard for myself and go convince the client myself. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Each morning looks like an empty canvas to me. And the sheer possibilities of how I can fill that canvas is super exciting. And when you are always thinking what more, how else, what colors, what shape, what words to give to your painting, it’s like an auto-pilot-motivation mode. Also song lyrics, humor, observing the daily grind, the routine, when someone says something which triggers something totally unexpected in your head, all these are wow, During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business is born during the COVID-19 crisis, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with the challenges of the pandemic. Our business model consists of a lean team which is not resource-heavy and has minimal overheads. The freelancer model ensures each & every work can be handled remotely, where we don’t need to do physical meetings. Every aspect of the business is online and tech-enabled to ensure automation as much as possible. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? The biggest challenge we face as a creative agency, is when you want to go after the Big Clients, They are: Hey your ideas are great, but… the proverbial but, how large is your team? Do you have a planner? how many people in servicing? And of course, as a start-up, one doesn’t have the luxury of a ‘Vanir-sena’, so you lose out. And on then the smaller clients, they are: Hey your ideas are great, but why is your cost so high, if we pay a big agency X rupees you should be charging 70% less! Dear clients, we are charging for the idea, for the quality we bring to the table. And if you don’t pay us then how will we become big and if we don’t become big, we won’t be able to hire the Vanir sena you guys totally deserve. So, it is a Catch-22 situation, really. What comes first for you - money or emotions? I believe Emotions comes first in me. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? Que Sera Sera! I have reached the stage where I just concentrate on the joy of creating, hustling, pushing aggressively and passionately. Beyond that the universe takes over, and I sit back, listen to music, dance, meet friends, family, paint, cook and write. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/ start up? Fall. Get up. Go. Repeat. This is one strategy I believe has helped me. In your opinion what are the keys to success? Success is very hard to define, to be honest. For me getting a script out just like I had seen it, is success. Or a coming up with an idea, that even I thought I was not capable of this success. It’s transitory. Success every day. It’s a journey. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? GRIT and BELIEF in the morning and WINE and MUSIC and LAUGHS in the evening can take you further than even what you envisaged. There is no other way. It is my privilege to appraise that I am also an Author with book titled ‘Beyond Frontline Excellence’ published by a Penguin Random House Company. Since I am passionate about creative pursuits, I have consolidated my experience into Communication Design, Design Thinking, Content, and overall Communication Excellence. As Chief of Strategy, I bring together a range of Management ideas to singularity in structure for execution. It is easy for me because I am good at it. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I choose entrepreneurship because it does not challenge my terms. Even though I have been in jobs earlier in my career where my Superiors were exceptional Leaders, perhaps that’s where I learned that there is a stark difference between a Leader and a Follower – the right Leader creates and develops more Leaders. That is what I feel I can do and presently am doing. On a lighter note, alternatively if I continued as a subordinate, I would most certainly fire my own Boss. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Frankly speaking I am inspired, not merely motivated. I am inspired by the purpose I am set out to achieve. This is what keeps the fire in my belly burning endlessly. My purpose, on a larger spectrum, is to bring positive change to individuals and masses. I am constantly working on it and feeling motivated all the time. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business began during the COVID-19 crisis, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with the challenges of the pandemic. We proudly abide by government safety standards for the services we provide. Every aspect of the business focuses on technological excellence to ensure automation as much as possible. We are structuring the unstructured market of Drip and Dry Services – which has been welcome by businesses and households during the pandemic. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? As you know, every business has risks. Our risks are associated with a right skillset that we look for to facilitate expansion. We already have a Core Team, moreover I see from future expansion perspectives that we would need multi-skilled employees, with flexible thought processes/adaptability and employees that dream big with a desire to develop and grow professionally. With a clearly defined process and existing skills in the Team, we are confident enough that we will mitigate the challenges. What comes first for you - money or emotions? None comes first I think. I can sleep with my money wallet left open. I believe that if your value creation process is right for others, money will automatically come as an outcome of it. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? When you become an expert at a subject, pressure does not arise. I manage stress, however, by soul searching through Fine Art, I bring to the surface all deep routed stresses and mitigate it through abstract expressionism. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? The one strategy that I believe has helped me grow are 2 D's i.e DREAM and DO. I believe in dreaming and executing by doing it. In your opinion what are the keys to success? Follow your passion and everything else like power, fame and money will follow you. This is the key of success for me. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Dream Big and Go for it – do not worry about what people would do and speak. Keep at it. Perfection comes from making your passion a ritual – done every time and everyday. Stay focused and obsessed about your passion.
